Sidelinews, Kampala, is responsible for the information described here. Last updated: 30 October 2026.
This page explains what information Sidelinews keeps and why. Questions or requests: news@sidelinews.com
Reading the site
When you open a page, we add one to that page’s daily view count, and to daily totals of visits, the broad kind of site you came from (for example WhatsApp or Google), whether you use a phone or a computer, and the hour. We use no cookies for this and we do not store your IP address; a scrambled, temporary code stops one visit counting twice and expires after 30 minutes. Only totals are kept. We use them to decide what to cover and share them with sponsors as overall numbers. We use no advertising trackers.
Fan votes
Your browser keeps a random code so each phone votes once. We store your vote with a scrambled copy of that code: no name, no phone number, no email.
Corrections and messages
If you suggest a correction or write to us, we keep your message, and your email if you give it, only to check the facts and reply.
Supporting Sidelinews
If you send us money by Mobile Money, we see the name and number your network shows us and keep them with the amount for our accounts. When online payments open, they are handled by Pesapal: you confirm with your own PIN or card, and we never see your PIN or card number. We keep the amount, the phone number or email you give, and your name and message if you add them, to send a receipt and keep our accounts. Your name appears on our thank-you list only if you tick the box.
Adding an event to our calendar
If you send an event through “Add your event”, we keep your name and contact details to check it with you. We show the organiser’s contact on the calendar only if you tick that it may be shown.
Videos and posts from other sites
YouTube videos load from YouTube only when you press play, in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode. Posts from X load from X. Their own privacy policies apply to those.
Players and photos
Players under 18, and players whose age we have not confirmed, appear by first name and initial (for example “Winnie N.”). Anyone can ask us to remove a photo or a name; requests about players under 18 are handled within 24 hours.
Staff accounts
Reporters and editors have accounts with a name, an email address and two-factor login. Login cookies are used only for those accounts.
Where your information is kept
The site runs on servers rented from Truehost. Daily backups are kept in a private Google Drive, and emails to us are kept in our Gmail inbox. We do not sell or give your information to anyone else.
Your rights
Under Uganda’s Data Protection and Privacy Act 2019 you can ask what we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. Write to the email address above.
