Wananchi Dominate the 2026 National Hockey League as focus turns to Uganda Cup.

Wananchi Sports Club continue to stamp their authority on Ugandan hockey, clinching both the 2026 Women’s and Men’s National Hockey League titles before the season’s end.

The women’s side sealed the championship on 24 October after defeating closest rivals Kampala Swans to move seven points clear with one match remaining. Wananchi have been nearly flawless all season, winning 12 of their 13 matches and drawing the other.

The men’s team have been even more dominant. They have won all 17 league matches, opened an unassailable 11-point lead with three games still to play, and remain on course for a perfect season. Their final hurdle is a trio of fixtures against RSC Community, Badgers and KHC Originals.

With the league titles already wrapped up, attention now shifts to the Uganda Cup semi-final second legs this weekend.

The standout fixture sees Wananchi face Weatherhead in the men’s competition after an enthralling 4-4 draw in the first leg. Weatherhead have the chance to become the first domestic side to stop Wananchi this season, while Rockets take a commanding 5-0 advantage into their return leg against KHC Originals.

In the women’s draw, Wananchi are firmly in control after a 5-1 first-leg victory over Weatherhead Gazelles. The other semi-final remains finely balanced, with Kampala Hockey Club, the Swans holding a narrow 2-1 lead over Wananchi-HDF.

League glory may already belong to Wananchi, but with four Uganda Cup semi-finals to conclude, the race for silverware is far from over.
