The 2026 Nyota International Hockey festival, organised by Twinkle Hockey Club, brought together competitive hockey, entertainment and social awareness, offering players, officials and spectators an exciting sporting experience.
Held under the theme of Breast and Prostate Cancer Awareness, the tournament used the sporting platform to promote early detection during October, highlighting the importance of cancer awareness and encouraging communities to take proactive steps towards their health.
Beyond the action on the pitch, this year’s tournament stood out for its entertainment programme, with presentations and performances staged between matches, keeping fans engaged throughout the event. The blend of sport and entertainment created a festive atmosphere, making the competition more than just a hockey tournament.
The event’s organisation also attracted praise from spectators, with one fan expressing admiration for the organisers, saying, “Nyota organisers should organise the Hockey World Cup.” The comment captured the excitement surrounding the event and the positive reception of its organisation.
On the pitch, Mixmed emerged as the men’s champions, while Pepsi SBC finished second and Parklands Sports Club secured third place. In the women’s category, Strathmore A claimed first place, followed by Blazers A in second and Strathmore B in third.
The tournament also recognised sportsmanship, with Ulinzi Patriots Blue receiving the men’s Fair Play Award, while Kenyatta University took the women’s Fair Play Award.
The award ceremony was graced by Kenya Hockey PRO Kelvin Maing, NCHTA President Peter Njoroge and representatives of the tournament’s sponsors, including HACO, Pepsi, BB Bread, Nairobi West Hospital and Indomie.
By combining competitive hockey, entertainment and a meaningful health awareness campaign, the 2026 Nyota International Hockey Tournament reinforced Twinkle Hockey Club’s contribution to the development of hockey and the use of sport as a platform for positive social impact.
The tournament’s reception and growing appeal provide an encouraging foundation for future editions, as Nyota continues to bring the hockey community together while promoting causes that extend beyond the playing field.
